Jan 21, 1937 -- GEORGE A. GIBSON -- George A. Gibson, prominent and well known citizen of Thompson Valley, died last Saturday night at his home. He was eighty-four years of age. Mr. Gibson was born at Hansonville in Russell county. At the age of 14 he came to Tazewell county where he engaged in farming. In 1872, he married Miss Mary E. Rhudy, who died in 1911. They were the parents of 11 children, six of whom died several years ago. There survives: Curtis Gibson, of Salem, Va.; Oscar Gibson, of Bluefield, Va.; Leroy Gibson, of Tazewell, R.F.D. mail carrier; Mrs. Cynthia Wimmer and Rebecca Gibson, of Thompson Valley. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Pleasant Hill church, with Rev. C.F. Lundy of the Methodist Church, in charge, assisted by Rev. D. F. Wyrick, of Springton, W.V. and Rev. W. P. Nickel, of the Thompson Valley Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the family cemetery. April 2, 1937 -- Richlands A number of relatives gathered at the home of Mrs. Mattie Griffith Monday evening to help celebrate her 73rd birthday. At a late hour refreshments were served to Mr. and Mrs. Claude Helton and daughter, Margaret; Mrs. A. A. Wysor; Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Shreve and children, Junior, Billy, and Norma; Mrs. Clarence Blankenship, Charlie Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Stinson and children, Mary Jayne, Ruth Ann and Jay Jerome. BOB GILLESPIE -- Death claimed Bob Gillespie, 76, Saturday evening at his home on Middle Creek. Mr. Gillespie has been in failing health for some time. Besides his wife, who before marriage was Margarret Harris, of Pounding Mill Branch, he is survived by three children, six grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. E. H. Epling. Burial was in Thomas cemetery at Pounding Mill. September 10, 1937 -- Richlands, Sept 9 - John Hill, 71, died Thrusday at the local hospital as a result of complications. Mr. Hill was a resident of the near Baptist Valley and is survived by his wife, one daughter and four sons. Funeral services were held Saturday at the home and burial took place at the Joe Dye Cemetery. |
