1942

April 3, 1942 --

Leroy Gibson, mail carrier from the Tazewell post office for the past 32 years, retires the first of April.  He made his last round Tuesday.  Thirty-two years is quite a span of time.  When Gibson began work serving the people on his route the roads were bad, the quantity of mail was small compared with today's volume.  As stated when Pat Barrett retired, many of the children of those days are now the mothers of the community and the leaders of social and civic life.  And many of the elders of those days have been gathered to thier fathers. Gibson has been a good citizen, an honest and faithful worker.  He will devote much of his time to his Thompson Valley farm.  Robert Lewis will be his successor on the route, expecting to take up the work after certain details are complete.
