April 13, 1951 -- WILLIAM J. TABOR -- William J. Tabor, 86, died last Wednesday at the home of his niece, Mrs. Ed. Rasnake of Baptist Valley. Mr. Tabor, son of George and Grace Tabor, was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. He taught for a number of years in the public schools of McDowell county, WV. He was unmarried. There survives a sister, Miss Betty Tabor, of Ohio and a brother, Jesse Tabor, of Baptist Valley. MRS. MARY PLASTER -- Mrs. Mary Plaster, aged 68, died last Wednesday at her home at Tip Top. She is survived by the following children; Miss Nannie Plaster, Tip Top; O.G. Plaster, Bluefield Va.; Mrs. D. C. Lewis, Abingdon, Va; A sister, and brother also survive; Mrs. Irene Nelson, Bluefield, WV., and Balford Bales, Sword Creek. MRS. NANCY KINSER -- Mrs. H.M. Kinser, widow of the late H.M. Kinser, a large landowner and farmer of Clear Fork, died last Thursday morning at the home of a son Luther Kinser. Before marriage she was Miss Nancy Bourne, of Gratton. Her husband died in 1935. Funeral services were held Friday at Kinsers Chapel with the Rev. Robert Gillepie in charge, assisted by the Rev. M. E. N. Lindsay. In addition to her son Luther, she is survived by these children; Mrs. F. Thompson; of Charleston; Mrs. D. D. Howell, Mrs. A. L. Leffel and Mrs. W. E. Shawver, all of Shawvers Mill; John H. Kinser of Cove Creek and H. H. Kinser, of Shawvers Mill. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Martha Repass of Princeton, WV. Mrs. W. G. Cox, and Mrs. Frank H. Cox of Gratton, and two brothers, Felix and Joe Bourne, of Gratton. WALTER MONK -- Walter Crockett Monk, fifty-two years of age, of Richlands, died Saturday at his home. Funeral services were conducted Monday at Laymans Chapel. Mr. Monk served two years with the 29th Division, 116th Infantry regiment during WWI. He had worked in the Raven Mines for eleven years and was with General Shales Products Corporation at Richlands. He is survived by his wife and four children; Pfc. Kenneth Monk, U.S. Army camp at Kilmer, NJ; Mrs. Betty Goss, of Richlands; Arthur and Giles of Richlands; one brother; two half sisters and ten brothers. MRS. COSBY CAROLINE LOWE -- Mrs. Cosby Caroline Lowe, of Pocahontas, died Sunday at her home. She was 80 years of age. She is survived by her husband; one son, Sylvester Lowe, of Johnson City; two daughters, Mrs. A. C. Johnson, of Dalton Ga., and Mrs. H.G. King, of Pocahontas and one sister, Mrs. Virginia Alley, of Bluefield. WILLIAM CHRISTIAN -- William A. Christian 67, of Pounding Mill, died Monday in a Richlands hospital. He was the son of the late Lewis and Rinda Christian, natives of Pounding Mill. Mr. Christian had been employed by the Pounding Mill Quarry for 30 years and had been night watch man for the past 18 years. Surviving are: his wife, formerly Miss Cora Brewster; three sons and five daughters, Miller and Henry Christian, of Pounding Mill; Blaine, of Cliffield; Mrs. Gladys Haris, of Steelesburg, and Misses Martha, Nancy, Marie and Carrie Christian, of Pounding Mill. Also surviving are six grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Brewster, of Pounding Mill, and Miss Ada Christian, of Remington, VA. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Pounding Mill Union Church, with the Rev. M.E.N. Lindsay and the Rev. W. E. Mustard in charge. April 27, 1951 -- MRS. LEE HARRY -- Mrs. Lee Harry, aged 68, died Wednesday evening at her home at Gratton after an illness of several weeks. She was a native of Peterstown and moved to Tazewell County in 1902 where she had since resided. In addition to her husband there survives two sons: Robert Harry, of Tazewell, and Frank Harry, of Gratton; four sisters; Mrs. Steve Peck, of Thorpe, WV; Mrs. Eugene Carter, of Hagerstown Md.; Mrs. C. J. Kitts, of Harlan, Ky., and Mrs. Leonard Weiller, of Baltimore, Md. and two brothers, C. A. Peck of Cincinnati and C.W. Peck, of Princeton. Funeral service will be held at 2PM Friday from the Mt. Olivet Methodist Church at Gratton, with the Rev. Robert C. Gillespie in charge. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be W. R. Harman, Lathrop Buchanan, Hugh Cox, Carl Melvin, Bob Cox and Theodore Nidermaier. The body was removed Thursday afternoon from Greever Funeral Home to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harry in Tazewell. MRS. JULIA WILLIAMS -- Mrs. Julia Williams, 77, Pounding Mill resident, died last Friday in a Wytheville hospital. She was born at Tip Top, a daughter of the late William W. and Melvia Laird Brown. She resided at Pounding Mill her entire life. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1915. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tom Ringstaff, of Iaeger, W.V.; Two sons, M-Sgt. Tom Williams in Korea and Pat Williams. Funeral services were held Sunday in Pounding Mill Union Church with the Rev. W. E. Mustard in charge, assisted by the Rev. M. E. N. Lindsay. BESSIE MAE DYE HUGHES -- Mrs. Charles Hughes, 52 years of age, died last Friday morning at her home in North Tazewell. She was the former Miss Bessie Mae Dye and was born in Lebanon, Russell County. She and her husband moved from Lebanon to North Tazewell ten years ago. She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Mrs. E. O. Pruett, of Bishop; Mrs. Ray Schultb, of Beckley; Mrs. James Long and Miss Peggy Hughes, of North Tazewell; six sons, Charles of Stoesbury, Va.; Cylde, Burke, Jack, Bob and James, all of North Tazewell; five sisters, Mrs. Asa Syke and Mrs George Harrison, of Lebanon; Mrs. Bill Patrick, of Richlands; Mrs. Russell Burke, of Norfolk and Mrs. George Honaker, of Honaker. Three brothers also survive. Funeral services were conducted Sunday from the Holiness Church in Lebanon. FRANCES COYNER HUFFARD -- Mrs. Frances Coyner Huffard, of Bluefield, Va. died last Saturday at a Chattanooga, Tenn., hospital from injuries she recieved in an automobile accident near Scottsboro, Ala. on April 7. Mrs. Huffard is survived by her husband, J. Hudson Huffard, mayor of Bluefield and a prominent citizen of Southwest Va.; a son, J. Hudson Huffard Jr., two daughters, Alice and Nancy Huffard, all of Bluefield and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.K. Coyner, of Marion Va. Mrs. Huffard, accompanined by her father and mother, were driving from Memphis to Chattanooga at the time of the accident. The family planned to spend the night in Chattanooga and would have driven on to Virginia. Mrs. Huffard's car was struck by another car approaching at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the road. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Coyner home in Marion. JOHN W. COMBS -- John W. Combs, aged 70 years of Pounding Mill, died Wednesday morning in a Richlands hospital of injuries received when he fell from a truck operated by Ed Martin, his nephew. Mr. Combs fell from the truck about a half mile south of Richlands on the Kents Ridge road. He was born in Tazewell County, a son of the late Pine and Mary Whitt Combs. He was employed at Jenkins Jones by the Pocahontas Fuel Company until 1947. His wife preceded him in death in 1950. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in the Maxwell Methodist church. LENA B. YOST KEESEE -- Mrs. Lena B. Keesee, wife of Charles G. Keesee, died at 1:15 P.M. Monday at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore. Mrs. Keesee, a native of Tazewell, was the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Wiley Yost of Baptist Valley. Surviving, in addition to her husband are: Five daughters, Miss Pearl Keesee, York; Mrs. Frank Bedford, Wilmington, Del. Mrs. Emory McQuirk and Mrs. Percy Cooper, both of Delta. Pa. and Mrs. Douglas Foight, of El Ceritto, Cal.; three sons, C. Fred Keesee, of Whiteford. W. Jennings Keesee, of Plyesville, and John T. Keesee, of York; two sisters, Mrs. G. T. Catron of War WV, and Mrs. Mattie McNeal, of Catawba, Va. and three brothers, Edd., Charles and Raleigh Yost all of Tazewell. Funeral services wee conducted Thursday at 2 P.M. at Harkins Funeral Home, Delta, Pa. Rev. W. M. Bott. pastor of First Methodist Chruch, Delta Pa Officiated. Interment was at the Slateville cemetery. FLORA MITCHELL -- Mrs. Flora Janee Mitchell died Tuesday night at her home at Bandy. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Tazewell county, being a daughter of Joseph and Lennie Beavers of Bandy. She was a member of the Christian Advent church. Her husband Thomas Mitchell preceded her in death in 1929. There survives three sons: Floyd, George, Gene, Darvil, and Paul, all of Bandy; three daughters Mrs. Violet Baldwin, of Beech Fork; Mrs. Viva Bandy, of War and Mrs. Ruby Sparks, Cedar Bluff, and a brother J. E. Bandy, of Bandy. Funeral service will be conducted Friday morning at the home of a son, Floyd. |
