RUSSELL BANE
COMPTON -- Russell Bane Compton, a well known citizen of Tip Top, died Monday
at his
home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Tazewell Baptist Church. Dr. Ortie
Bradshaw officiated, assisted by the Rev. W. D. Larrowe
Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. Compton was born March
10, 1879 in
Tazewell county, the son of the late Flemming and Fannie Messersmith
Compton. He was supervisor of school maintenance in Tazewell county for a number of years. He is survived by his
wife, Lelia McDowell Compton; a son, Bane Compton of
Bluefield; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley E. Mitchem of Tip
Top; a sister, Mrs. Nora Keslip of Lafayette, Va., and several grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Quince Wimmer, Grat Wimmer, Ray Wimmer, Cute Heldreth, Gada Kovach, Paul Ayers and Grat

and Donald from Fisherville and Mrs. N.T. Buchanan
from Thompson Valley were guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Lineberry last week.
Kent Hoge
has been visiting relatives in Marion for the past week.
Randy and Donnie Shrader of
Tazewell were visiting their grandparents, the Bowen Meeks, last week.
The infant daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. "Buck" Lampert was in the hospital
for a few days but is now home and improving.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hoge were in Roanoke Monday and Tuesday attending the
meeting of the Soil Conservation Supervisors.
Burkes Garden, Aug 11 - Mr.
and Mrs. Emory Harris and three children were guests of Mrs. Harris aunt, Mrs.
Bowen Meek, for a week.

NANCY KELLY LEECE -- Mrs. William A. Leece, of
Tazewell, died Sunday in a Richlands hospital
following a few days illness. Before her marriage Mrs. Leech was Miss
Nancy Kelly. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago.
Survivors are: two daughters; Mrs. Wilton Adams, Miami, Florida, Miss Martha Leece
of Tazewell; two sons, Sam and Bill Leech both of Tazewell;
one sister. Mrs. F. D. Kinder, of Bristol Va. and one brother,
William
Kelly, Bristol Va. Funeral services were
conducted Tuesday from the Presbyterian Church with the Rev. A. B. Montgomery
Jr. Officiating. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ed
George, Oscar George, Bill T. Peery, W. D. Bundy, Jr. Jimmy St. Clair and Jack Burk.
SUSAN JANE BUCHANAN -- Mrs. Susan Jane Buchanan died October 22 at Bluefield
Sanitarium where she
made her home. Mrs. Buchanan was born May 17, 1870 in Tazewell, a daughter of Elijah
and Pauline Remines Sargent.
JACK NELSON MEADE -- Jack Nelson Meade, aged five years, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Meade of North
Tazewell,
was instantly killed by an accidental gun blast Monday evening. The lad,
along with a brother, Paul Edward Meade, nine years old, entered the room of an
uncle who lives in the River Jack section of North Tazewell, and found a 30-30 rifle and Paul
Edward, it is stated, accidently
discharged the weapon into the mid section of the younger child's body.
The father, Paul Meade is a motorman iin the Bishop
mine.
