WALTER E. SIMMONS -- Funeral services for Walter E. Simmons were conducted Feb.
4 at 2:30 pm
from the First Baptist Church of Richlands with Rev.
Nelson T. Barker in charge, assisted by Rev. E. E. Chafin,
Rev. J. Peery Smith and Dr. A. Charles Allen.
Entombment followed in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, with Masonic rites by Lodge No.
318 AF & AM. Active pallbearers were: Mayor W. W. Fields Sr.,
J.E. Cranwell, Dr. J.A. Robinson, J. Powell Royall, Harry Patterson, M. H. Lowe Jr. C.A. Harris and Paul B. Hefner.
Honorary pallbearers were: Employees of Simmons Chevrolet Sales Inc, Dixie Wire
and Cable, and S & S Machinery, and C. A. Clyborne,
Ed. B. Fast, F. L. Buxton, George Grover, Wallace Morgan, R. L. Beavers Jr.,
Dr. Fred Casey, Willard Casey, Howard Stanton, Dr. A. Del Castillo and Milton
Adair. The body was removed from the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Feb. 2 to
the home of the deceased and was placed in the church one hour prior to the
service.
MRS. AUDREY RUTH HART -- Mrs. Audrey Ruth Hart, 41, a former resident of Richlands and Cedar Bluff, died suddenly at her home at Falls Church, on January 29, after a brief
illness. She was born in Russell county, the daughter of Samuel Dye and
the late Cordelia Vance Dye. Mrs. Hart had been
a resident of Falls
Church, for the past ten years. She had followed the vocation of
nursing. Survivors include her husband, Howard Hart, of Manassas, her
father Samuel Dye, of Tazewell, six sisters and one brother: Mrs. Sam Lester
and Mrs. Milburn Whitt, Cedar Bluff, Mrs. Charlie Aicie,
of Tazewell, Mrs. Roy Lee Rasnake, Cleveland, Mrs. Henry Hicks, Middletown,
Mrs. Earl Maness, Manassas, and Warner Dye, of Bluefield. Funeral
services were conducted from the Hurst-Scott funeral chapel, Feb. 3 at 11:00 am., with Rev. Carl Robinson in charge. Burial followed
in Greenhills memory gardens, Claypool Hill.
Pallbearers were: Johnny and David Compton, Ronnie Whitt, Larry Dye, Sammy
Maness, Luther Johnson, Gene Russell and Kenneth Lester.March 3, 1966 --
CHARLES MCNEIL FRENCH -- Charles McNeil French 68 Richlands,
died in a local hospital Saturday afternoon after a brief illness. He was
born in Tazewell County, as son of the late Phil and Dolly
Wilson French. He has been a resident of Richlands
all of his life, had been employed by the Norfolk and Western Railroad for 50
years and at the time of his illness worked as an engineer. He was also a
member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Survivors include his
wife, Mrs. Flora Ferrell French; three daughters, Mrs. Kyle Belcher, of Richlands, Mrs. Joe Blair McGlothlin
of Grundy and mrs. Harry Robinette of Cedar Bluff;
one sister, Mrs. Cannie Stanley of Coeburn; four
brothers, Robert and Gus French of Richlands, Kelly
French of Hanover Pa and Jay French of Williamson, WV. and
four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Hurst Scott
Chapel, Tue. afternoon at 2pm with Rev Dale Holemes,
Rev. Lee McGlothlin and Rev. E. E. Chafin officiating. Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were Arnold Day,
Richard Robinette, John Hagy, E.O. Campton, Bill VanDyke and J.T. Smith. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home was
in charge of the arrangements.
JULIA DAVIS HARMAN -- Mrs. Julia Davis Harman, 94, formerly of Tazewell died in
Elizabethton, Tenn, following an illness of four
weeks. Mrs. Harman was the widow of the late Charles H. Harman, one of
the pioneer settlers of Tazewell County. She was the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Arnold Davis and was a member of the Methodist Church since childhood. Survivors
include three daughters, Mrs. J. Ernest Williams of Norfolk, Mrs. R. V. Crockett of
Johnson
City Tenn, and Mrs. R. F. Thompson of Matoaka, WV; one sister, Mrs. Ada Lee Updike of Bristol; five grandchildren; and ten great
grand children. Funeral services were conducted at 2pm Sat. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in
Bluefield, and burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery.
