Feb. 23, 1972 --
JOHN ELSWICK -- John H. (Jack) Elswick, 83, of the
Cove area of Tazewell County, a well-known farmer, died Sat. night,
Feb. 19, at his home following an apparent heart attack. A life long resident
of Tazewell County, he was a son of the late Billy and
Louise Vencill Elswick.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nannie Patrick Elswick; three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Mary) Marrs of the home, Mrs. Howard T. (Louise) Brown of
Tazewell, and Mrs. Clarence
(Grace) Hall of Richlands; seven sons, William H. Elswick, Stewart A. Elswick,
Robert M. Elswick and Walter C. Elswick,
all of Rt. 1 Tazewell, James T. (Slim) Elswick and
Roy D. Elswick both of Tazewell and Archie Lee
Elswick of North Tazewell; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie
sheets of Marion Va, and Mrs. Ida Buchanan of
Florida; 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were
held Tuesday at the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands
with Rev. Fred Wyatt and Rev. Windell Patterson
officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers John Elswick, Robert Brown, Tom Brown, Larry Brown, Steve Cooley, Tom Patrick Jr. Tom Patrick III and Raymond E. Patrick.
VIDA BOYD -- Mrs. Vida Elswick Boyd, 88, of Chapel Hill, NC formerly of Tazewell and Richlands, died Friday Feb 18 at the home of a daughter,
Mrs. Nancy Taylor, at Chapel Hill. She was a former resident of Bristol Tenn before moving to Chapel Hill three years ago. She was the widow
of the late C. W. Boyd. Surviving in addition to Mrs
Taylor are two other daughters, Mrs. Elize Irson of Chapel Hill, and Mrs. Billie DeBord
of Alexandria, Va; two
sons, Bailey Boyd and Russell Boyd, both of Washington DC. One Step daughter
Mrs. Josephine Johnson of Grundy Va; two sisters, Mrs. S. G. Swim of Richlands, and Mrs. Ted Smith of Cedar Bluff; 12
grandchildren and
several great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday in the Paul Cook
Funeral Chapel in Bristol, Tenn., with Dr. J.P.F. Stevenson
officiating. Burial followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol Va.
ALLEN WARDEN -- Funeral service for Allen G. Warden, 66 of 131 First St. Bluefield Va. who was found dead at his home
Tuesday, Feb. 15 were conducted Thursday at Dudley Memorial Mortuary with Rev.
Fred Walker officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memorial Gardens on Bluefield Tazewell Road. Born in Tazewell, he was the son
of the late Joe E. and Mary Yost Warden. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Jean Wilson Warden. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the
Graham Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of the Harmon Lodge No. 222 of
Bluefield Va. and the Bluefield Old Guard. He was
a retired employee of Thornhill Plumbing and Tinning
Co. Survivors include two brothers, W. O. (Bill) Warden of Bluefield, VA and
George N. Warden of Toledo, Ohio; one step son W. W. Burton of Bristol Va. and one stepdaughter, Mrs. James
Gordon of Wilson NC. Members of Harmon Lodge No. 222 served as pallbearers.
HENRY MALOYED SR. -- Henry Marvin Maloyed Sr., 77 of
Tannersville, a well known Tazewell county farmer and lumberman, died Fri. Feb.
18 in a Marion hospital. Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Lena Wyatt Maloyed. six daughters, Mrs. Ernest
Vandyke and Mrs. Gladys Poe, both of Richlands; Mrs.
Granville Martin of Bluefield, Mrs. Lacy Hancock of Marion, Mrs. Howard
Blackwell of Tannersville and Mrs. James Ashley of Broadford;
for sons, H.M. Maloyed Jr. and Stanley Maloyed, both of Tazewell, and Wade Maloyed
and Ralph Maloyed both of Tannersville; one brother,
George Maloyed of Rt. 3 Saltville; three sisters,
Mrs. Ellis Gillespie of Maitland, Mrs. Keil Anderson
of Rt. 3 Saltville, and Mrs. Cynthia Shultz of Tampa, Fla,
29 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday
at the Richdale Methodist Church at Chatham Hill, with Rev. John E.
Davis, Rev. Raymond Kelly, and Rev. Billy Dean officiating. Burial followed in
the Church Cemetery |
