Sept. 24, 1975 --

CHARLES WILLIAM STUMP -- Charles William (Will) Stump, 80, of Rt. 1 Swords creek died Friday afternoon in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness. A life long resident of
Russell County, he was a son of the late Mike and Ida Lee Stump. His wife, Mrs. Sarah Lester Stump preceded him in death in Feb. 1971. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Mamie Plaster of Swords creek, Mrs. Louise Stillwell of Raven, Mrs. Charity Dingess of Mrs. Myrtle Teats, both of Cleveland, Oh, Mrs. Mae Earls of Bluefield and Mrs. Ida Crawford of Brooksville, FL.; two sons, Herbert Stump of Swords Creek and Claude Stump of Doran; six sisters, Mrs. Mamie Peck of Honaker,
Mrs. Rosie Hurt of Doran, Miss Gertie Stump of Tazewell, Mrs. Rebecca Hawkins of Hurley, Mrs. Myrtle Matney of Ohio, and Mrs. Gracie Peck of Swords Creek; 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  Funeral services were conducted Monday at
2pm at the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker, with Rev. Harley Dye and Rev. Clyde Richardson officiating. Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers were Randall Plaster, Michael Stillwell, Bruce Steele, Danny Steele, Robert VanDyke and Bill VanDyke.

MRS. IDA BILLINGS -- Mrs. Ida Mae Billings, 85, of Rt. 1 Cedar Bluff, died early Friday in a Richlands hospital following a long illness. Born in
Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Annie Blackman Wagner, both Buchanan County natives. She was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff and Bandy areas and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Billings, in 1940. She was the late surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Ora) Altizer of Squire, Mrs. Hattie M. Harman of Rt. 1, Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Ronald (Ruth) Shrader of North Tazewell; three sons, Charlie Billings of Bandy, Carl Billings of Manassas, and Rev. John L. Billings of North Tazewell; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2pm Sunday at the Hurst Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands wth Rev. Carter Wells officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield Tazewell Road. Grandsons were pallbearers.

MRS. GUSSIE A. KWASS -- Mrs. Gussie A. Kwass, 89, member of a pioneer
Bluefield family, died Tue. morning at a Bluefield hospital. She had resided at Glenwood Park Nursing home, where she suffered various illnesses, for more then six years. Coming to Bluefield with her parents, Samuel and Ceclia Klush Aaron, in 1893, she attended all Bluefield School then in existence.  She was long active in community, and religious service organizations, was a member of the Congregation Ahavath Sholom and a past president of its sisterhoods. During WWII she cited as a volunteer Red Cross worker. Her husband, Joseph I. Kwass, member of a pioneer Pocahontas family, died in 1952.  Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, and a brother.  Survivors include two sons, local attorney Sidney J. Kwass, Meyer Kwass of Charleston; two sisters, Mrs. A. N. (Sara) Schlossberg of Bluefield, Mrs. Louis (Jennie) Schwartz of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Mercer Funeral Home Thursday at 3:30 pm by Rabbi Jay B. Heyman of Temple Isral, Charleston.

DANIEL NUNLEY -- Daniel Nunley, 59, of
Martinsville, formerly of Horsepen, died at his home Friday afternoon following a brief illness. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jean McClure Nunley; four daughters, Mrs. Clinton Pratt of Christiansburg, Mrs. Ustice Perry of Tazewell, Mrs. Michael Simpkins of Dublin, and Miss Sue Nunley of the home; five sons, Russell Nunley of Bluewell, WV;  Victory Nunley of Martinsville, Daniel E. Nunley of Bluewell, WV, Ernest Nunley of Bishop and Larry Nunley of Abbs Valley; four brothers, Oscar Nunley, Walter Nunley and Davide Nunley all of Martinsville and Wade Nunley of Brewsterdale; four sisters, Mrs. Davis Bowman of Brewsterdale, Mrs. Cora Moore of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Josephine Cox of Independence. and Mrs. Ray Arnold of Volney, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2pm at the church of Jesus Christ in Brewsterdale with REv. Russell Booth officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Shumate-Newman Funeral Home in Pocahontas, was in charge of the arrangements.
