Howard (shown on the left)  was the son of Alexander & Maudie (Gray) PROFFITT.  He worked in the mines in Tazewell County. 
He married Miss Juanita Virginia NEACE   in Tazewell County on 27 December, 1938.  They were the parents of four sons:
