Mrs Emily M’Glothlin,
Pioneer Resident, Dies
Impressive rites were held
last Sunday afternoon at the home for Mrs. Emily McGlothlin, 85, pioneer
resident of the Raven community.
Mrs. McGlothlin was born and
reared on Swords Dreek, a daughter of the late C.C. and Amanda Richardson.
She was born March 20, 1852 and was married to Henry J. McGlothlin in
1880. He died some 48 years ago from the effects of stings received from
his bees.
Mrs McGlothlin had a vivid
recollection of the hardships imposed upon the people of this section
during and after the Civil War.
She was one of the outstanding
older settlers of this community and could recall many interesting
incidents in early childhood.
Surviving are the following
children; A. L. McGlothlin, J.P. McGlothlin, James S. McGlothlin ,Henry S
McGlothlin of Raven, Mrs. H.L. VanDyke, Vandyke Va., and Mrs. H. C.
Plaster, of Swords Creek,
The Rev. E.M. Ritchey,
officiated at the services. It was estimated that nearly 1500 persons
attended the services.
